Rocky Marciano definitely belongs in the upper tier of past heavyweight champions, but quite honestly I wouldn’t rank him above a prime Louis or Ali. I think the supersized heavyweights of today are really not the best way to go, and that their sheer bulk offers more disadvantages than advantages, that being said Marciano is really only slightly smaller than the optimal size for a heavyweight. Cases could be made that Dempsey, Louis, Foreman, and Liston, all punched harder than the Rock, but no one came close to his work rate. Marciano definitely has no equals in conditioning and will to win categories and those two qualities are what more than often determine the outcome of any physical contest and especially boxing.
